THE LEGEND OF ALAWI …
The name ALAWI recalls the legend of a rich and famous merchant of the 18th century, the Sheikh ALAWI, who in his countless business trips between the Gulf of Aden and the coasts of Kenya, staying inside the reef, at the warm and calm waters of the coast, he met, fell in love and married a beautiful indigenous girl with the exotic name of KASKAZI (Typical monsoon wind name of the East African coast) daughter of humble local fishermen. ALAWI’s love for KASKAZI was so great that, contrary to the usual social custom of polygamy, ALAWI got married and lived all his life only with KASKAZI.
From the marriage 4 sons were born, and in honor of the splendid and adored wife they were called by as many names of typical coastal winds, “SHUTA, JAMBA, MALIZA, KUZI”.
T he legend has it that all children became great merchants and navigators, by virtue of the teachings passed on by their parents and to honor their names. The legend does not tell much more, but it is enough to recognize what we all would like for ourselves, happiness, love, dedication to work.
It is with this spirit and in the memory of a romantic legend with a happy ending and good omen, that we wanted to call our Boutique Hotel, with the name of the Sheikh ALAWI (in ancient Arabic it means Heavenly), and dedicate the names of the rooms to his wife KASKAZI and their children SHUTA, JAMBA, MALIZA, KUZI.
May it also be a good omen for all our guests.
