St. Mary’s Mission Hospital is under the Assumption Sisters of Nairobi (ASN). The first group of the ASN was formed as an African Congregation made of all African Sisters based in the Archdiocese of Nairobi. The Assumption Sisters of Nairobi received a Decree of Pontifical Recognition on May 27, 1998. This means, they now worked directly under the Holy Father and as missionaries in all parts of the world.
To date, the Charism and the principles of ASN is to remain immersed among the people as life givers, help bring the Good News of Salvation in order to uplift the dignity of all people, especially women and with openness to the changing needs of time. The ASN’s vision is to be witnesses of love and service reflecting the ministry of Christ where all people are respected with a mission to fulfill the mission of Christ through evangelism to the communities they live in. It was on this basis that in 1999, the first of The Saint Mary’s Hospital was established in Lang’ata. A second hospital was also opened in Elementaita in 2007. Through these hospitals and other outreach programmes, the ASN provides healthcare services, education and evangelization to the poor and vulnerable people.
