Lake Basin Development Company Authority is under the MInistry of East African Community and Regional Development. It was established in 1979 by an Act of Parliament, Cap 442 to spearhead development in the Kenyan portion of Lake Victoria basin. The Act empowers the Authority to undertake overall integrated planning, co-ordination and implementation of programs and projects in the basin.
Lake Basin Development Company and its catchments cover an area of 39,000 Km² exclusive of Lake Victoria’s area of 4,000 km2. The Authority’s area of jurisdiction covers 18 Counties, 15 of which are fully covered and 3 are covered partially. (The entire former Nyanza, Western Province and parts of the Rift Valley).
