Established in 2009, Gynocare Women’s and Fistula Hospital was founded by Dr. Hillary Mabeya in response to a distressing case involving the sexual assault of a 19-month-old girl. Originally functioning as an outpatient clinic, the hospital expanded its services to include fistula surgery on June 19, 2011. Specializing in fistula cases, the hospital has collaborated with various organizations to educate women on the condition and its treatment, offering the surgeries free of charge.
Located in Eldoret, a town in the North Rift region of Kenya, the hospital serves as a referral center for approximately 10 million people, including 4.5 million pastoralists. Over the years, Gynocare Women’s and Fistula Hospital has evolved into a comprehensive healthcare facility, providing treatment for a wide range of illnesses to all individuals seeking medical assistance.
With the support of generous donors and organizations like One by One International, Fistula Foundation, Direct Relief, and ADRA Germany through Waldfriede Hospital, Gynocare continues its mission to address fistula issues and promote women’s health. Recognized as Kenya’s first Fistula training center by the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, the hospital currently has a capacity of 88 beds, which is expanding to over 100 beds by April, including the addition of ICU services at affordable rates.
