Ecopost Sustainable Living – Plastics are often portrayed as a culprit of environmental degradation. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Ecopost Sustainable Living is a social enterprise that addresses the challenges of urban waste management (plastic pollution), chronic youth unemployment, deforestation and climate change.

We are committed to environmental excellence that is integrated with a business-wide approach to sustainability. We recycle waste plastic to manufacture into Eco-friendly plastic lumber profiles with application in numerous industries from fencing to road signage to outdoor furniture. We employ an existing technology, local labour and resources to produce an innovative product and help solve pressing socioeconomic and environmental challenges.

The collection, management and disposal of waste continues to feature prominently as a challenge in our towns and cities. In many African countries, waste generation is a result of a rapidly growing urban population, the changing patterns of production, consumption and industrialization.

As consumer attitudes towards our responsibility to the planet are changing, smarter materials offer a way forward and Ecopost is leading the way. In Africa we generate over 70 million metric tonnes of municipal solid waste of which approx 20% is plastic.

The World Bank estimates that this is set to double by the year 2025 owing to rapid urbanisation and industrialisation. We’ve also destroyed some 11.3 million hectares of forest land, largely due to human activities. Some 10 million young and educated Africans graduate from our 660+ colleges & universities every year with limited employment prospects.

Last but not least our smallholder farmers, who account for over 70% of our agricultural output, languish in poverty yet sit on billions of tonnes of agricultural waste that they can sell for an income for use in generating energy and manufacturing sustainable building materials.
