Ampath Kenya – What started as a small team responding to a population of people in need has grown into a global partnership between academic institutions in Kenya, North America, and around the world. Together, we’ve pooled our resources, knowledge, ideas, and passion to become one of Africa’s largest, most comprehensive and successful health care systems.
START WITH CARE. THEN DO MORE.
At Ampath Kenya, we’ve found that helping people means so much more than medical treatment. It’s only when we combine care with nutrition and family support, education, counseling, insurance, jobs and financial independence, and self-sufficiency that we truly change lives for the better.
Ours is a partnership made up of organizations like Moi University and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya, Indiana University in North America, the Kenyan Government, the National Hospital Insurance Fund, and so many more.
Together, we start with healthcare for patients, and then do more to empower communities, educate tomorrow’s medical experts, and research breakthroughs that will truly change the health of the world.
800+ CARE SITES IN KENYA
At the center of our efforts in Kenya is the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, which serves nearly half of the Kenyan population for care, plus our training and research activities. From there, AMPATH supports more than 800 Kenyan Ministry of Health facilities where more rural communities receive critical treatment, medication, counseling, and more.
A TEAM OF THOUSANDS, FIGHTING FOR MILLIONS.
What started with four doctors has grown to become a partnership of thousands of people, working to establish and maintain health systems, training programs, and research that helps millions of Kenyans – and benefits global health – every day.
It wasn’t long after we started our healthcare efforts in Kenya that we realized in order to truly help people, we had to think not just about treatment, but also about entire lives: families, jobs, education, and futures. It’s all connected. That’s why our programs are set up to first help people survive, and then to help them thrive.
